ToggleRosie O’Donnell is an American television personality, author, actress, director, and producer who has a net worth of approximately 80 million dollars. The former Star Search star has made most of her wealth through her successful acting and comedy career, her various business ventures, and real estate investments.
Career
Rosie O’Donnell began her career as a teenager. She started as a comedian in the late 1970s. Rosie used to perform in clubs, and one day, she met Ed McMahon’s daughter, who told her that she was funny. She requested her number and then called Rosie three days later. Rosie was surprised by the opportunity that had presented itself, but she did not hesitate to grab it. Joining Star Search opened several doors for her as it brought her into the limelight.
Rosie started landing various television and film roles. Her first major role on television came in 1986 when she was cast in the show Gimme a Break, where she played Nell Harper’s neighbor. She went on to star in various shows and even hosted several shows. Besides, in 1996 she started hosting her show titled The Rosie O’Donnell Show. It became a fan favorite, and at the time, she was considered the daytime queen.
In 2006 another opportunity presented itself when Meredith Vieira left The View, a daytime talk show. Rosie took Meredith’s place, but also Star Jones quit, given that she did not see eye-to-eye with Rosie. She was such a great addition to the talk show; she made it more news-focused, and it became one of the most-watched daytime talk shows.
Business Ventures and Philanthropy
Besides her successful career in the entertainment industry, Rosie O’Donnell has engaged in several businesses that have significantly impacted her fortune. For instance, she partnered with McCall’s publishers to come up with a magazine called Rosie’s McCall’s. It discussed various issues ranging from depression, foster care, and breast cancer.
Moreover, Rosie O’Donnell has always been committed to making a difference in society. In 1996, she used 3 million dollars to start, For All Kids Foundation. The foundation aimed to raise funds to help improve daycare standards across America.
Real Estate
Rosie has also made various real estate investments that have significantly grown her fortunes. In 2013, Rosie bought a property for 6.375 million in Saddle River, New Jersey. Two years later, she tried selling the property but could not find a buyer. Initially, she had listed the home for 7 million dollars but lowered it to 5.99 million dollars. Over the years, she could not find a buyer, but in 2021, she sold the property for 5.3 million, making a loss of 1 million.
In 2015, Rosie made another real estate investment, buying a home in West Palm Beach, Florida, for 5 million dollars. She sold the home close to three years later but at the same price as the buying price. Despite not making any profits, Rosie continued to invest in real estate. In 2017, she bought a condo in New York City for 8 million dollars. But she listed it for sale in April 2024 but at a lower price than the buying price.
