That’s why they don’t just watch films on a regular basis, but also attempt to consume every ounce of information available about them. However, for most movie-goers, that isn’t the case as they simply use films and theatres as an escape from their day-to-day rigors. This is where movie-themed games come into play as they help bridge the gap and turn those passive viewers into something more by giving them a lot more information.

Word games like Movie Grid , Box Office Game, and a few others do exactly that as they give players information they wouldn’t have otherwise looked up in a fun and engaging way. Not only that, they create a deeper connection between each film and player by encouraging even more research into the film, the directors, the cast, and more.
What is Box Office Game?
Inspired by the catalog of word games and their subsequent success since the COVID-19 pandemic, Box Office Game challenges cinephiles and casual movie-goers to put their knowledge to the test. The game has solvers find the names of five movies inside ten turns and gives them only three clues (Studio, Release date, and Box Office) at the start to do so. Players can pick three more clues from the given cards and then need to figure out the name that fits within the parameters of the clues.
For example, one of the clues for a Box Office puzzle gave the clues Marvel Studios, 2019, and $1.129 billion as the studio, release date, and box office respectively. That does narrow the list to only a few films, especially once the first extra clue (name of the lead actor) is revealed. That is, however, one of the easier movies on the list as things do become tougher, especially given the fact that players get only ten chances to solve five movies.
That does offer players the chance to make one mistake per guess although as things become harder going down the line, many opt to save their guesses for the tougher films.
How to play Box Office Game?
Unlike other word games, Box Office Game features a simple format with a basic grid that has five sub-headings; Movie title, Studio, Release Date, Box Office, and Hints. Players are tasked with figuring out the movie name from the middle three sub-headings (Studio, Release Date, and Box office). There is also a search bar-like box above the grid where players have to enter their guesses.
From there, players have to simply enter their guesses, and if they’re unsure about what the film is based on the first three clues, then players have three more additional clues. They’re placed in the row below each challenge and simply have to be opened by clicking on the arrow in the Hints sub-heading. These cards vary depending on the day and the movie but often contain the name of the lead actor, director, a synopsis, a frame from the film, emojis describing the film, and more. Furthermore, like most word games, there is a daily challenge where the puzzle resets at midnight.
